Bulldozers are engineering vehicles that are equipped with a blade (or a metal plate), which is used to move large amounts of sand, rubble, soil, dirt, etc. Another part of a bulldozer is the ripper. These vehicles are often used in construction work and are pretty popular in the UK. The term bulldozer is also used to refer to truck loaders. When used precisely, though, this term should only refer to tractors, which come with a dozer blade.
Features and Uses
Bulldozers are often large and very powerful vehicles. The tracks that these vehicles have, give them a good hold on the ground. This is also the reason why it can move through the roughest terrains. The width of its tracks gives the bulldozer the needed weight distribution (where pressure is decreased), therefore it can move on sandy or even muddy grounds.
The torque divider is created to convert the power of the engine into dragging capacity, enabling the vehicle to push heavy materials with the use of its own weight. With this dragging feature, a bulldozer is also able to remove any objects that are stuck deep into the ground. Bulldozers are also used to clean up areas that are full of shrubbery, construction debris, burnt materials like old vehicles, etc.
The major uses of bulldozers still remain to be earthmoving, deforestation and paving roads. These vehicles are often used to level the ground in preparation for construction (such as the creation of roads or buildings).
Bulldozer Innovations
There have been many improvements on the bulldozer that paved the way for the vehicle to become a major equipment in construction sites. There are now more uses for a bulldozer. A loader (a variation of the bulldozer where the blade is substituted with hydraulic arms and a large bucket) can scoop up dirt and load it into trucks.
There are also bulldozers that can be used to remove snow that block highways and other major roads. The smaller versions of the bulldozer can operate in tight areas, like a mining site. The term that is often used to refer to a very small bulldozer is a calfdozer.
The bulldozer has reigned in the UK construction work for decades and it will remain so for years to come.
