Compactors

Compactors are machines that are utilized to make waste materials smaller by compacting. The term trash compactor is often used to describe a compactor that is used in residential areas and businesses.

A compactor is usually powered by hydraulics and comes in many forms and sizes. Examples of common compactors are those that are used in landfills (called a landfill compactor). This machine is used to drive over waste materials that are delivered by waste collection vehicles (WCV’s). WCV’s also make use of compaction to reduce the number of times that it has to unload garbage and to maximize its payload capacity.

Residential, Commercial and Municipal Uses

Compactors used in residential areas are equipped with volume-reduction capability. These are especially useful for households that have biodegradable wastes. They can curb the nasty odors and keep rodents at bay.

The most common commercial use for a compactor is scrap-metal processing. Car crushers can either flatten or turn scrap metals into large cubes. Restaurants, fast food chains and hotels all over the UK make use of compactors to reduce the volume of their waste. They do this not just to reduce waste mass, but also to avoid the occurrence of vermin infestation. The most common loading configurations of a commercial compactor are:

  • Walk-on
  • Secured indoor chute
  • Ground-access

When it comes to construction, compactors can be classified into the plate compactor (also referred to as the jumping jack) and the road roller. Roller types are used to compact crushed rocks that are best used as slabs or foundations. English people often refer to trench compactors as Paddy’s motorbike because they were used before by Irish construction workers.

A compactor is effective in carrying about 200 gallons of trash to designated landfill sites in the country. There are now solar-powered trash compactors. There are so many uses for a compactor. Without it, it would be harder to deal with waste disposal problems, as well as other construction tasks.
