A compactor machine is basically designed to be used by a fairly experienced operator. The compactor machine has a base plate (which is adapted to the material that it will be compacting), and an operative unit which is mounted on the base plate (this causes the base plate to vibrate when the equipment is in use). This equipment also has a rigid handle that is installed and it pivots relative to the unit.

There are many types of compactor equipments—some can be as bulky as a bulldozer, a car crusher or garbage compactors. But these compactor machines are better known for their smaller versions such as kitchen compactors, auto bailers and the drum compactor.

Drum compactors are used for purposes like crushing old and used drums or compressing hazardous waste. Most drum compactors are equipped with safety features to ensure blast-free compaction. Most of these units also come with liquid-draining features. They can also be operated from a distance (to ensure maximum safety) with the use of microprocessor controls. Drum compactors are meant to produce up to 85,000 pounds of force with minimum distortion. These equipments are being used to crush steel, fiber, or even plastic drums.

Presently, there are also some models called the in-drum compactors which can do the job even while the operator is just inches away from the equipment. All that he has to do is to put the drum to be crushed inside the compactor, close the door and the equipment will soon be reducing the drum to almost nothing. In-drum compactors also do not start to operate unless the door is closed which makes it a safe equipment even for the inexperienced.

Drums need to be handled in a special way especially when they have liquid contents that need to be mixed. There are stationery and portable drum mixers and drum rollers. Some of these drum rollers are used to blend contents without having to open the drum’s lid. Closed-drum operation would ensure worker safety and also lesser cleaning time. Some industrial drum rollers are also equipped with drain stands and most come with levers or lifters that would no longer require the worker to physically carry and place the drum onto the machine. Just like most compacting machines, drum rollers also have base plates.

Top construction machine manufacturers in the UK such as The Belle Group and Winget produce quality drum compactors and drum rollers. Other companies include Morse, Vyleater, Ram Flat, Pack-Master, and All Tech. Just make sure to purchase from quality manufacturers for all your drum-handling needs.
