Each day, people find new ways to utilize excavators. With a lot of applications, construction firms and contractors in the UK agree that their excavators have to be equipped for maximum productivity. This can only be accomplished with the right excavator attachments for different tasks.

There are other terms for excavator attachments, such as allied equipment for excavators and excavator tools. The term that is commonly used in the UK, though, is still excavator attachment. All these terms came about because these tools are designed to increase the productivity of excavators and, eventually, improve the results of tasks that are accomplished.

Getting to Know the Excavator Attachments

  • Excavator thumbs—before the invention of thumbs, handling materials with the use of excavators was time consuming and expensive. Before, one or two men were asked to stand guard on the ground to hook or unhook chains each time. Thumbs are attachments, which make excavators capable of handling materials efficiently. There is often no need for a second machine on the job site, neither those lengthy chains, nor expensive extra manpower.
  • Stump splitters—land clearing is best accomplished with the use of these attachments. Wood processing is also made possible when these attachments are placed in any excavator.
  • Buckets have many different shapes and sizes. The various types of buckets include pavement removal bucket, heavy duty buckets, ditch cleaning buckets, tilt buckets, coal stripping buckets, mini buckets and general purpose buckets. These attachments are used in lifting large and heavy materials from off the ground.
  • Grapples are especially designed for heavy-duty demolition tasks, such as land clearing, rock handling and many other applications. These attachments clamp on their loads. Aside from clamping, grapples can also pry or break with force. These attachments can also be used for piling, loading, scrap handling and stacking jobs.
  • Compaction wheels—as the name suggests, they are used for compacting materials with the use of penetration, manipulation and mixing. There are models that are especially made for well-graded and cohesive soils. There are also versions that can be used for granular soils or other types of soils.

Use these excavator attachments well and you should be able to see a major improvement in all your construction jobs.
