The New Holland 555E has the BSD 450NA as its heart and lungs which gives it a raw gross power of 83 at 2200 RPM. This powerful engine works with an open center type hydraulics which has been improved from the earlier New Holland backhoes.

The hydraulic system of the 555E utilizes flexible tubing which replaced the steel tubing used in older backhoe series. A mechanical lock also replaced the hydraulic boom lock. There are also improvements implemented with the loader valve. These enhancements with the New Holland 555E backhoe ensures that it will operate on peak levels most of the time.

The 555E utilizes a straight arm loader like other machines in its class. A four bar linkage design like in the LB75, 575E, 655E, and 675E is used to optimize the bucket rotation and breakout force of the machine. This is also aided by a torque tube and massive integral loader on top of the loader post.

The cab is also ergonomically designed to make sure that the operator will be comfortable during operation, encountering lesser stress and fatigue. From the cab, the operator has a clear view of all the tools that he is manipulating and the surface that he is dealing with.

The 555E was also designed to make servicing very easy. The fuel and hydraulic fills are at ground level to facilitate easy access and quick servicing.

The New Holland backhoes including the 555E are engineered to last for decades and are designed to have tough, weather resistant surface finish. This is accomplished by employing state of the art paint processes.
